Interaction with Animals Near Madrid

The real name of this enclave is Safari Madrid (http://www.safarimadrid.com/) but I have only heard it called Safari Park.  Here you have a chance to drive through open areas and see animals roaming more freely than in a regular zoo.

The first thing we do when we get to the park is drive through the savannah feeding carrots to camels, llamas, reindeer, goats and zebras through slightly cracked car windows.   Further on through the drive all windows go up for the lion, hippos and baboon section where you can take photos but while driving; stop and the baboons will run off with your car antenna.

After the drive, we head straight back to the amphitheater for the predatory bird show which always surprises for two reasons; their massive wingspan plus the fact that they return after flying freely.  Notable additions to the show are a fox named Mayra and a vulture who acts like a dog following his master.  He is actually cute.  Have you ever wanted to say that about a vulture?

Advice for the petting zoo is to go in without carrots as the goats are quite eager to take them from you and have learned to circle people on their hind feet in an attempt to be the first to get food.

There is also a giant slide, a pool in summer, an amphibian show, crocodile house, go-karts and a mini-zoo which houses rescued animals.

Safari Park Madrid is located in the southwest of the province of Madrid just past the town of Aldea de Fresno on the M-507 not far past Navalcarnero.
