My Most Superlative Madrid

Most priceless request:  Keep your dog off my roof!
o   This request perplexed me.  “How,” I thought, “could my dog be getting on your roof?”  By continuing the discussion, I discovered that this person lived in a cave house half way down the hill.  His ‘roof’, therefore, is nothing more than a plot of land which slopes downward from the sidewalk on my street.

The funniest traffic advisory:   Traffic backed up to Costa Rica
o   Traffic on the inner beltway of Madrid, the M-30, is usually backed up at rush hour.  One day was particularly bad and the advisories started before I even reached the beltway.  Luckily, this was not a warning for a 3000 mile backup; Costa Rica is also the name of a street in Madrid.

Most exciting highway:  A-3 near Madrid
o   This highway connects the capital with Valencia.  I equate it with an amusement park; there are Roller Coasters, Merry-Go-Rounds and Bumper Cars. My favorite, Bumper Cars on Exit 6 driving towards Valencia.

The ugliest bird isn’t one
o   My daughter declared she had seen a hummingbird in our garden.  It would be possible although we are located a little too far north.  I finally got a photograph of it.  Sure enough, it was flying like a hummingbird, it had the pointy little nectar dipper too but, my, was it an ugly hummingbird.   Then, we discovered something….

it's a moth pretending to be a hummingbird!
